Yamaha Inspection Solutions

Yamaha’s successful Inspection portfolio includes YSi-X AOXI – YSi-V 3D AOI and dual-lane AOI machines. The YSi-V features a newly developed 12 megapixel high-resolution camera, high-speed image processing technology, a new 3D inspection function that checks component height and tilt angle simultaneously, plus a 4-direction angled camera employing exclusive image capture technology.

The YSi-X is a multi-function 3D X-ray hybrid-type inspection system capable of complete in-line inspection of all facets of printed circuit boards. This system implements 2D/3D X-ray inspection using innovative and patented high-speed X-ray laminography imaging technology, and integrates multiple additional inspection modes utilizing optics and lasers. Because this hybrid capability eliminates the need for a separate optical inspection unit, the new YSi-X also reduces overall investment for an SMT production line.

Yamaha Dispensing Solutions

Building on the success of its total-line solutions combining YS-series and YSM-series mounters, the YSP printer, YCP-10 compact printer and YSi inspection systems, Yamaha introduced the next level of line integration with its new YSD high-speed dispenser. The Yamaha dispensing systems have been Japan’s No. 1 dispensing solution since 1987, and entered the European market in 2013.

The YSD dispenser is built on the proven hardware and software platform common to other Yamaha SMT equipment. Using the YSD together with Yamaha’s high-speed modular type surface mounters enables customers to configure a high-performance SMT line that not only has a high level of productivity, but is also very efficient in its use of floor space. The YSD is also an ideal cost-efficient machine for prototype production lines, delivering advantages such as eliminating stencil costs and lead-times, and the ability to adapt quickly to design changes.

Yamaha Final Assembly solutions

These days, many enquiries relate to inline assembly of odd-form components, particularly from automotive companies seeking automated placement of large connectors. To satisfy these requirements Yamaha introduced the YC8. Yamaha introduced new feeding solutions for the YC8, including an advanced radial tape feeder and stack stick feeder for heavy or large components.

Yamaha Printing Solutions

The high performance of the YCP-10 and YSP screen printers from Yamaha has made this family one of the top printing solutions in the world. The combined advantages of high-performance printing, ease of use, and software commonality with other machines in the line have propelled the YCP-10/YSP to this position.

Yamaha’s printer portfolio also offers a dual-lane/dual-stencil printer. With the unique possibility for sequential printing working with two different stencil thicknesses, the YSP20 can print 120 micron for micro-BGAs with 0.3mm ball diameter, and 40 micron solder paste for 03015mm components with minimal interspacing. This ultra-advanced process innovation can be accomplished only with the YSP20.

Mounting solutions

In recent years, various products from home electronics, personal computers, to mobile phones have become miniaturized, high-density, multi-functional, and diversified. In addition, their product cycle is becoming shorter. In line with these trends, the electronic component mounting process of these products requires efficiency and flexibility to allow both various product types in small quantities as well as mass production to be carried out using the same production line, instead of simply mass-producing one product over an extended period.

With even further miniaturization and diversification of electronic components, a recent trend has been to have multiple heads (such as a head that mounts only small components at high speeds, or a head designed for mounting components that are large and odd shaped). And in order to handle a wide range of components while maintaining productivity, these heads were replaced according to the component characteristics and production quantity. However, there have been various issues associated with employing interchangeable heads. For example, head replacement may cause production time loss, as well as poor ROI because of the underutilized expensive spare heads cost.

Furthermore, if there is even a single large component that needs to be mounted on a PCB, a general-purpose low speed head may have to be used, which does not allow high-speed mounting of smaller components. The result can be a loss in efficiency due to lower throughput and/or bottlenecking.

In order to solve these issues, Yamaha Motor has been developing and marketing its YS Series with “one-head solution” as the ideal concept, where a single type of head can provide compatibility from small chips to large components.
The new Z:LEX YSM20 is developed as “the ultimate” high-efficiency modular mounter that pursues the “one-head solution” ideal further: it flexibly and efficiently caters to a variety of production processes without the loss caused by head replacement, while achieving the world’s fastest mounting speed in its class.

In addition, the unique Yamaha advantage of offering a full lineup of surface mount equipment, including printers, dispensers, surface mounters, and inspection systems, allows an in-line mounting system to be set up seamlessly. Thus Yamaha Motor has achieved an improvement in production efficiency and quality for the entire mounting line.
